The Bucks SportsAid Foundation - Supporting our stars of tomorrow

What is it?
The Bucks SportsAid Foundation has been established to support local athletes that have been inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. In partnership with SportsAid - the only UK charity directly helping talented young British sportsmen and women - the purpose of the Foundation is to raise money to support talented sportsmen and women from Bucks to achieve their sporting goals.

The Bucks SportsAid Foundation is the pathway to greatness for young sports people throughout the County. This is where the dreams start and where the young athletes progress and move on to the next level. The Bucks SportsAid Foundation helps to take them to that next level, involving you in the success story.

Why has it been established?
The sole purpose of the Bucks SportsAid Foundation is to raise money to help the next generation of Bucks’ sporting talent to succeed. It is a joint initiative between SportsAid, the national charity for sportspeople, the Bucks Sports Partnership and the partnership group formed to maximise the benefits for Bucks from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Our research identifies that on average each athlete spends nearly £5,000 per year on equipment, training, travelling and all of the other essentials that are required for competing at the top level. More often than not their only sponsors are Mum and Dad so every bit of independent recognition and financial help that the young athlete gets at this stage makes a world of difference. Lottery funding has helped British sport enormously in recent years, but it cannot fund every aspect of sport, and this money rarely trickles down to individuals in the 12-16 year-old group. Local individuals, businesses and Trusts often want to support our talented athletes, but until now there has been no easy way to do this.
That’s why SportsAid is so vital and why Bucks has teamed up with SportsAid to establish a Sports Foundation for the County.

“For me, it wasn’t just the funding that I received from Spots Aid, important though that was in the early stages of my development, but it was the fact that other people recognised my potential and wanted to support me that really spurred me on”

Adrian Moorhouse MBE
Olympic Gold Medallist
Chairman of the Bucks Coordinating Group for the 2012 Games

This is your opportunity to make a difference to the life of a talented Bucks youngster who could one day be competing on the world stage. The Bucks SportsAid Foundation develops partnerships with companies, individuals, the public sector and other grant giving trusts to fund these talented young people. There are a number of ways you can help us with our work from attendance at our events, one-off donations, or multiple-year associations. Whatever donation you and your company can afford to give will be greatly appreciated. In return, we are developing a package of benefits for businesses for their financial contribution towards helping Bucks athletes to achieve their best.

However there are other ways you can help!
For example, each year the Bucks SportsAid Foundation organizes fundraising lunches across the county with high profile speakers and sporting celebrities. Why not entertain clients at a Bucks SportsAid Foundation luncheon or even take on the organisation of a lunch?

Alternatively why not organise a fundraising event on behalf of the Bucks SportsAid Foundation or raise money by undertaking a sponsored challenge like running a marathon. Payroll giving is another opportunity. Whatever you choose, SportsAid is the perfect beneficiary charity.

The Bucks SportsAid Foundation has a direct appeal to sponsors as well as aspiring young athletes because we enable both to fulfil their dreams – to compete in British sport or to invest in it and watch it flourish. What’s more you can be assured that money raised in Bucks will go solely towards supporting Bucks sports people, and that’s guaranteed!

There has never been a better time to back Bucks sport. Getting involved now will make a real difference to our aspiring young athletes. If you would like to become involved with the Bucks SportsAid Foundation, at whatever level, we’d be delighted to hear from you.

“SportsAid’s work is vital, not only to financially support talented young athletes at a time when they have no other funding to fall back on but for the recognition it gives them for what they have achieved and could potentially achieve in the future”

Multi-Paralympic Gold Medalist and SportsAid grant recipient
