Alison Mowbray

Alison is an Olympic Rower from High Wycombe in Bucks.

Alison didn't start rowing until she went to Liverpool University aged 18. She didn't get onto the British team until she was 27.

Alison says she really loves anything that gets her outdoors. Walking, running or cycling.

She has competed in 5 World Championships and 2 Olympic Games.

She retired in 2004 after the Olympic Games in Athens because she says she had worked hard for long enough. She now works as a teacher.

She has recently had her first go at sailing and loved it.

 

Achievements:

2004 - OLYMPIC SILVER MEDALLIST in Athens as part of the quadruple scull.

2004 - 3rd place at the GB National Team Trials.
World Cup gold in the quadruple scull at the World Cup in Poznan and silver in Munich before rounding off the 2004 world cup season with gold in Lucerne.

2003 - 4th in the quadruple scull at the World Championships in Milan.

2001 & 2002 - Twice fifth at the World Championships in the quad.

2000 - Competed at the Olympic Games and was 10th in the single.

1999 - 11th at the World Championships in the single.
1998 - 10th in the quad.

1994 - Commonwealth bronze (eight).


Opened the 2003 season in a double with Sarah Winckless and was a B finalist in Milan.

Joined the quad for Munich and finished fourth. Took a bronze medal in Lucerne.

Made her international debut in 1993 at the world U23s in the single.
