Get Up and Go for National Falls Awareness Week 2010
'Get Up and Go' is the message of National Falls Awareness Week 2010. Running nationwide from 21st to 25th June.
This years message represents the independence we all aspire to in later life, and the strength and balance we need to keep active. Put quite simply, it's about having:
- The strength and power to rise from a chair,
- The balance to remain upright, and
- The balance and endurance to go walking.
Physical activity is one of the most effective ways of positively influencing our health and is the theme for National Falls Awareness Week 2010.
Get Fit Avoid Falls is a 12 week programme with exercises to improve balance, strength and mobility, followed by educational workshops. It aims to increase knowledge of falls prevention including how to recover from a fall, home safety and community services. To contact the Get Fit Avoid Falls team, telephone 0844 225 2403.
For other sports and physical activity aimed at older people across the county, contact Kirsty Ingham, Fit for Life project officer on 01296 585249 or e-mail kingham[at]buckssport.org
