A group of patients from the National Spinal Injuries Centre in Stoke Mandeville had the opportunity recently to complete the Day Certificate in Sports Leadership Course.
Delivered by the Bucks & Milton Keynes Sport Partnership, a Sports Leaders UK Local Centre of Community Sport Leadership, the course developed their skills in a range of areas including leadership and communication. Building on the interest and ability the patients have in sport, the course highlighted opportunities they may wish to pursue in future to become a sports leader, volunteer or sports coach.
With the groundbreaking nature of the National Spinal Injuries Centre’s work – it has an international reputation for providing acute and rehabilitation care for patients with spinal cord injury – it’s appropriate it has hosted the first Sports Leader UK Course in the community for adults with physical disabilities. Following its success, Bucks Sport and the National Spinal Injuries Centre, are currently setting dates to deliver a Level 2 Community Sports Leadership Course in February 2010.
