| When the PE and senior management team at Beaconsfield High School were asked to nominate a pupil for the role of Young Ambassador, Anna was their immediate choice. Anna joined the Young Ambassadors Programme last October and has since gone on to register over 500 volunteering hours and achieve Gold Awards in both community and school volunteering. Anna has had to work extremely hard to juggle the pressures of her schoolwork at a very demanding grammar school, in addition to her | amazing voluntary roles in sport. The fact that she was so successful in her GCSE’s and still managed to achieve her Gold certificates is testimony to her total commitment as an active volunteer. Out of school, Anna is a committed member of the Bourne End Junior Sport Club, a volunteer at a disability sports club and helps with the running of galas at the Wycombe Swimming Club. Perhaps one of the most surprising things about Anna is that she has achieved all of this, and more, at the young age of 16. |
Gemma Collis - Runner Up - Photo - Click Here |
| This year, as a Sports Leader, Gemma has completed more than 150 hours of volunteering: 100 in the community and more than 50 hours at her school, Aylesbury High. She is a star pupil of the Leadership Academy Programme (run by the Mandeville School Sport Partnership), completing the most volunteering hours out of the group, and helping hundreds of children get more active. Gemma has worked in many settings ranging from covering lunchtime and afterschool clubs, supporting local sports clubs, organising holiday sports programmes in the |
community and helping at school competitions. Gemma’s ongoing commitment to learning and selfdevelopment (she recently completed her Community Sports Leadership Award), combined with her natural ability, has meant that she can turn her hand to any sporting event, whether it’s hockey, netball, basketball, athletics or multisports. This year alone, Gemma was selected to attend the UK School Games and the National Convention for Sports Leaders and is now one of only three young people to attain the status of Gold Sports Ambassador. |
Sophie Heggie - Runner Up - Photo - Click Here |
| Sophie’s an influential member of the School Sports Council at Princes Risborough School and is always on hand to help the PE department and others in general. As part of the school’s mentoring programme, Gemma has been supporting a Year 8 pupil with behavioural problems: today he regularly attends school and performs well in lessons. As an accomplished dancer, Sophie’s unique achievement is bringing the excitement of dance to young people. Each year Sophie performs in and helps choreograph the local gym and dance festival. As part of her Level 2 | Community Sports Leaders Award, Sophie volunteered in various primary schools, giving young children the opportunity to participate in the festival. Keen to promote dance throughout the school year, Sophie set up the school’s first dance club after attaining her Level 1 Dance Leader Award and also contributes extensively to practical GCSE classes. A familiar face in the local community, Sophie teaches a range of age groups at Tanya’s School of Dance in Haddenham. We are in no doubt that Sophie will be tomorrow’s inspiration for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’! |
