Basketball is primarily an indoor sport although there are some variants of the game that can be played on an outdoor surface. Basketball is a team sport consisting of 12 people per team with five on court at any one time and two referees. Each team must defend and attack raised netted hoops at both ends of the court with the aim of scoring more points than the opposition.
Basketball is a popular sport worldwide and it is a Commonwealth, Olympic and Paralympic Sport. Basketball has a growing status amongst children and adults particularly through the NBA league in the United States and its emerging popularity in Europe.
