Simply Walk

Simply Walk - Why walk?

The World Health Organisation recommends that we all do at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity (a brisk walk is ideal), at least five times a week to be healthy. Unfortunately nearly a quarter of us do less than this.

If you are wondering how to get started, why not come out with us? You'll improve your health, meet new people and learn about your local countryside. Plus, it's free and you don't have to book.

For nearly 4 years Simply Walk has been gathering momentum and there are now nearly 500 walkers each week striding out towards a healthier life in a total of 33 walks across Buckinghamshire.

Simply Walk...your way to feeling good
Physical activity has long been recognised as having positive effects on the mind as well as the body. Exercise releases "happy hormones" called seratonin which help to improve your mood.

Benefits of walking

Don't worry if you are not used to regular exercise or are recovering from illness. Our Simply Walk leaders will encourage you to walk at your own pace to enable you to build up your strength and stamina. We aim to accommodate everyone as far as possible.

Comments from happy walkers
"Some two years ago my wife had a heart attack, and we followed the keep fit programme from the hospital and from there to Simply Walk.....the hospital has now confirmed she is back to full health..."
"Not only have I noticed a marked difference in my mobility, but it has also become a very social occasion..."
"I am writing to say how much I enjoy the "Simply Walks" I began walking about two years ago ... and have found them very beneficial for keeping fit and active"

Become a volunteer walk leader
Walks are led by volunteer trained walk leaders, who are qualified in first aid. If you like walking with people and have a bit of time to spare, why not volunteer to be one of our walk leaders?

We promote Simply Walk in partnership with the Buckinghamshire Primary Care Trust and district councils, as part of the national walking the way to health initiative.

Walking helps people feel better, endorsed by the local mental health teams organising walks for their clients.
