The Bucks Girls Football League was formed in July 2003 to provide football for girls on a regular basis. The league has been supported by the Bucks & Milton Keynes County Sports Partnership, (formerly known as Active Sports Bucks) a Sport England initiative to provide football for girls aged 8 -16.
Bucks & Milton Keynes Sports Partnership gives girls the opportunity to start playing football within Kick Start courses, which are linked to local clubs or form new girls teams. We have run nearly twenty five courses over the past 3 years and have increased the numbers of teams from 6 to over 50.
We encourage each club in the league to gain the FA’s Charter Standard accreditation, which gives parents peace of mind that all coaches are CRB Checked and hold a minimum FA level 1 coaching certificate, which includes emergency aid and child protection. Charter Standard clubs are highlighted in the directory section.
Bucks & Milton Keynes Sports Partnership also run a talent assessment programme, that offers the players from the league and other local clubs and schools the opportunity to come along to a four week informal assessment, the successful candidates will be invited to a 16 week coaching centre, where they will be coached at a higher level but still remain with their own club. Individuals wishing to take a further step have the opportunity to move into a local centre of excellence, currently there is only MK Dons in Bucks. Thirty girls have progressed from coaching centre to various centres of excellence including Watford, Chelsea, Reading & MK Dons.
Next season 07/08 we hope to alter the structure of the league and run.
