South East Regional Boccia Championships 2007

On Wednesday 14th November, Ali Lalani, Team Great Britain Boccia medallist, joined over 50 children taking part in the South East Regional Boccia Championships at the Vale of White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre in Oxfordshire....

The Championships, this year hosted by the Oxfordshire Sports Partnership, was made up of School teams most of which qualified from their counties Youth Games competed in 2 leagues for the South-East Schools Championship Trophies.

The competition was intense with several close matches and some of the best Boccia seen to date in this competition.

The Valence School from Kent won the Championship Trophy in the competition for competitors with Physical and/or Sensory Impairments, with the Castle School in Berkshire claiming the runners up position.

The other competition was for players with Moderate Learning Disabilities and/or Autism, St Werberg Centre from Kent were victorious with the Avenue from Berkshire Runner-Up.

The Redway School from Milton Keynes represented Buckinghamshire in the Learning Disability Competition qualifying through the Bucks Youth Games.  They played very well with some excellent games being played and finished in 7th place.  This was a great achievement as they are a school for pupils with Severe Learning Disabilities competing against schools for pupils with Moderate Learning Disabilities.

Slated Row School also from Milton Keynes was selected to represent Bucks in the Physical & Sensory Competition but unfortunately they were unable to attend at the last minute.

We were privileged to have the support of Ali Lalani who is part of Great Britain Boccia Team who won World Cup Gold this year. He officiated matches and inspired the young players to follow their Boccia ambitions.

Congratulations to all the teams that competed and made it such a successful event.  Thank you to everyone who made the day possible including Oxfordshire Sports Partnership, County Disability Sports Officers, EFDS, Teachers, Vale of White Horse District Council, OXSRAD, Vale SSP, Volunteers and The Vale of White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre for being great hosts.
