The visit, organised and funded by Sport England was part of their ‘Sporting Champions’ initiative which encourages young people to become more active by meeting their sporting heroes face to face.
Ade proved to be extremely popular with the youngsters with his display of wheelchair basketball skills and a presentation that was aimed at inspiring and motivating his young audience to take up more sport. As an added bonus, the children who met Ade on the day will be able to keep in touch with him and follow his progress through the Sporting Champions website at www.sportingchampions.org
The pan disability festival, which was organised by Bucks Sport was extremely well attended. Ten special and mainstream schools brought a total of 80 children. In addition, a number of young leaders from Alfriston School and Pebble Brook School volunteered their services as helpers for the day and gained valuable experience in Sports Leadership.
The children were able to participate in a variety of fun and physically beneficial activities throughout the day including a session led by the Milton Keynes based Snugs Gymnastics Club.
Mat Butler (Bucks Sport Disability Multi-skills Coach) who organised the event said ‘It was wonderful and inspiring to see so many young people enjoying taking part in our festival and I’d like to say thank you to all who contributed to the day’
