Coach
Coaches are usually used as either, head coaches, assistant coaches or even managers. Many coaching positions ensure qualifications are essential, but those assisting the head coach means lesser qualifications would be required in many instances. Whilst carrying out coaching awards such as CSLA, Millennium Volunteers etc., voluntary hours are required, thus gaining experience, especially for younger people.
Catering
There are many catering roles within sports organisations, they range from a tea lady to a head chef. Whether it’s supplying food or beverages, hospitality is an important function in sports organisations. People working towards awards such as NVQ’s could and will benefit from carrying out voluntary work.
Marketing
Marketing covers a wide range of roles from publicity officers to events organisers. No experience or skills are necessarily required, but of course it does help.
Mentoring
If you looking for a challenge then mentoring someone may be a way of putting something back into society. It may be helping someone who has a disability or if English isn’t their first language to work with them in an organisation. Out of all the opportunities this could be the most rewarding for a volunteer.
Transport
Many organisations in the voluntary sector require drivers to get people from A to B whether it is in the clubs own transport or by private vehicle, this is an essential aspect of getting volunteers to the opportunity.
IT
Computers are a 21st century vehicle for organisations and individuals alike, computers have a function to carry out things such as club accounts, presentations and emails etc. If you are a website designer you may be able to assist many clubs who want to promote their organisations on the Net, this opens the doors for many housebound people as well as younger people who use computers daily whilst at school or college.
