Coach of the Year

Kate Porter - Winner - Photo - Click Here

Kate has been involved in coaching at Wycombe Hockey Club (WHC) for over seven seasons. In this time she has increased participation at WHC by 20% and developed a junior girls’ section: today it has more than 160 members. Kate is also President of the Bucks Hockey Association and coaches the U14 girls’ team. The performance of her club and county teams is consistently high, with them regularly receiving top honours. In 2009 her list of achievements include: league winners and regional semi-finalists (U14’s); 4th in the Home Counties Premier League (U16’s); 2nd in the Southern Counties Inter-County Competition (Bucks U14’s) and coach at the England Hockey Junior Regional Performance Centre. As well as her innovative approach to coaching, the club and county coaches that Kate works with have also benefitted from having Kate as a mentor to support their own development. In spite of her success Kate, like her players, is determined to continually improve her performance. This year she will complete her Level 3 in coaching hockey and her Level 3 in Personal Fitness and Health Training.

George Milton Bevan - Runner Up - Photo - Click Here

George regularly coaches at various Badminton England key events, such as the England Training Camps, and was invited to attend the highly prestigious European Badminton Union Coach Education Course in Sweden. He also coaches several highly successful teams as well as Chris Coles, the National Junior Champion in Men’s Doubles. He has also been instrumental in developing two Performance Centres in Oxfordshire and Berkshire. With these and other illustrious accomplishments, one would suspect George has little energy left for his part-time role as Head Coach at Badminton Wycombe. However he has
put this relatively new Performance Centre on the map by working twice his allocated hours and also developing strong relationships with local schools to help get hundreds more local children started in badminton. We’re truly privileged to have George working locally and following his nomination as the Player Manager for Raveesha Fernando and David Jones (both have represented England at Junior Level) he is certainly raising the profile of badminton in Bucks.

Dave Peterson - Runner up - Photo - Click Here

Once a small village affair, Ley Hill Cricket Club is now a big hitter in the local cricket leagues. In the last eight years Dave has worked tirelessly to introduce a junior section to the club. Finding the necessary coaches and managers, as well as undertaking ongoing coach training with the English Cricket Board, Dave has created one of the largest junior sections in Bucks. There is at least one junior team playing at every level, with the 6-8 years olds being introduced to the game through Kwik-Cricket. Dave has also doubled the number of Saturday and Sunday league sides through
the steady stream of juniors coming through to play adult cricket. Local school children are also benefiting from Dave’s coaching and the opportunity to use the club’s facilities with some of the local boys and girls now representing Chiltern District and/or Bucks County. And with the extensive team of coaches and volunteers now established at the club, there’s every chance the next great England cricketer (male or female!) could be found at Ley Hill.
