Great Perfomances From Bucks Athletes

On behalf of the Bucks Sport Board, Staff and all our partner agencies from across the county, we would like to congratulate the Olympic and Paralympic athletes that competed in the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games during the summer.

Great Britain enjoyed considerable success in Beijing this summer and we were delighted that many athletes who live or train in Buckinghamshire represented our country with distinction in the Olympic & Paralympic Games.

Amongst the notable achievements were the performances from many of the Marlow Rowing Club representatives, most notably Zac Purchase who along with Mark Hunter brought home gold medals in the Men’s Lightweight Skulls. Aylesbury born Andy Triggs-Hodge led the men’s 4’s to rowing gold and Wycombe born Rebecca Romero who switched sports to claim gold on the cycle track.

Many of our Paralympic team train regularly in Buckinghamshire including Sophie Christiansen the dressage gold medallist who trains at the South Bucks Riding for the Disabled Centre in Fulmer whilst both the wheelchair basketball teams and the wheelchair rugby team are regular visitors to the Stoke Mandeville Stadium.

As we look forward to 2012 we are seeking to develop a programme of support for all our potential  Buckinghamshire Olympians and Paralympians. This programme will include the expansion of the Talent Passport programme which already provides training support for talented athletes and provide a legacy of funding support through the Buckinghamshire Sports Aid Foundation which we launched in 2008.
