Clare Strange

Clare is from Wycombe and is a Paralympic Wheelchair Basketball Player with Aces, based at Stoke Mandeville Stadium in Aylesbury, and Great Britain

Great Britain wheelchair basketball star Clare Strange has already been to two Paralympic Games - Sydney in 2000 and Athens in 2004. The High Wycombe athlete has also played in one of Europe's toughest professional clubs in the Italian League.

In 1997 as an 18-yr-old she broke her back in a freak horse-riding accident. However, only a year later she was playing for the Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball Team at the World Championships in Sydney.

While in hospital, she started playing wheelchair basketball and it soon became obvious that this would become her new sporting focus. In March of that year she started training with Milton Keynes Aces, in May she was invited to a women's wheelchair basketball development day and was then asked to train with the Great Britain women's squad.
