Chance to be Part of the Peoples Record
What do the Olympic & Paralympic Games mean to you?
Peoples Record is a national community project to record your experiences of the UK hosting the 2012 Games. It is a collection of living memories from the 1900's to the present day and people in the Aylesbury area will have the chance to be part of this unique national collection.
Do you know somebody who was involved in the 1948 London Games, did you help with the 1984 Paralympic Games in Stoke Mandeville , have you visited an Olympic or Paralympic City or do you still have an Olympic coin or stamp collection from your childhood?
Bring your memories, souvenirs and mementoes of past Olympic and Paralympic Games to the Friars Square Shopping Centre on March 13th between 10.30a.m. and 3p.m. representatives from the County Records Team will be on hand to record your experiences and tales of what the objects mean to you. They will take photographs and scans of your objects which could form part of the Buckinghamshire contribution to this unique national collection in 2012. It does not matter if you were an athlete, coach, spectator lucky enough to have been part of an Olympic or Paralympic Games or fan watching in your living room, the Peoples Record aims to collect your memories and recollections of how the games have touched your life. The project which is being led by the Museums Libraries and Archives Council will form part of the Cultural Olympiad programme to welcome the world and inspire young people.

What is the Cultural Olympiad? The Olympic and Paralympic Games are about more than sport. The vision of the founder of the modern games, Pierre de Courbertin, was to create an international festival of sport, art and education. This idea was based on the original Greek Olympics which celebrated mind, body and spirit. Until 1948, medals were awarded for sculpture, music, literature and art. The role of the arts in the Olympic movement has increasing importance as young people seek to achieve excellence and explore their role in the world through all creative fields.
