Aylesbury born, Huw began playing handball in 2007 when he successfully got through a series of trials for a UK Sport Talent Identification process. He was selected to be part of the World Class Handball programme within 6 months of beginning the trials and moved out to Aarhus (
Prior to playing handball, Huw played rugby union and rugby league. He represented England Students at International level in rugby league and also played semi-professional rugby league in
