Aylesbury born, Huw began playing handball in 2007 when he successfully got through a series of trials for a UK Sport Talent Identification process. He was selected to be part of the World Class Handball programme within 6 months of beginning the trials and moved out to Aarhus (Denmark) to train full time. Since being in the sport, Huw has been involved with the Great Britain team for a number of years and has earned around 20 caps for his country. He has played club handball for several teams in Denmark, including the Skovbakken Handball Club. Huw was voted the British Olympic Association Handball Athlete of the Year in 2008.
 
Prior to playing handball, Huw played rugby union and rugby league. He represented England Students at International level in rugby league and also played semi-professional rugby league in France at the highest club level.

Interesting Facts
Huw was voted the British Olympic Association athlete of the year for handball.
