INSPIRATION - The Bucks Sport 2012 Legacy Vision

Bucks Sport has developed a vision statement and action plan to set out its plans to maxmise the legacy for sport of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Bucks Sport will ensure that the inspiration of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games provides a lasting legacy for sport.

We will ensure more people are inspired to participate, compete, exel, overcome barrier, lead and invest in sport.

But our plans are about more than just bricks and mortar or financial packages.… This is about inspiring more young people to become involved in sport and giving the young athletes of the future the help they need to become champions of the future.”

Lord Sebastian Coe – July 2005

Our legacy action plan will be based on the following themes;

Theme

Action

Inspired to Participate

Everyone, in particular young people and those with disabilities, becoming more active and participating more often in sport.  We will develop a marketing campaign, raise awareness of existing opportunities and create innovative new schemes to promote participation.

Inspired to Compete

More people participating in organised sport; being members of a club, receiving coaching and competing.  We will develop the Bucks Youth Games and implement a new modern competition structure for young people and more informal competition opportunities for all.

Inspired to Excel

Identifying, celebrating and supporting our talented athletes at national, regional, county and club level.  We will develop the Bucks Sport Talent Passport providing increasing support and more beneficiaries. We will identify, profile and involve our many past elite athletes and medal winners as a group of Bucks Sport Ambassadors along with our School Sport Partnership Young Ambassadors.

Inspired to Overcome

Using the inspiration of the Paralympic Movement and the Stoke Mandeville Stadium to overcome barriers to participation and progression for people with disabilities and other disadvantaged groups.

Inspired to Lead

We will use the power of the Games to inspire more people to volunteer in sport and to provide sports leadership and coaching.  We will develop a community sports leadership and Volunteering programme, a training programme, a Sports Coach Agency and the Bucks Sport Awards to recruit, recognise, retain, develop and deploy the sports workforce.

Inspired to Invest

Individuals and organisations with influence and resources inspired to invest further in sporting facilities, people and programmes.  We will use the inspiration of the Games to engage a range of agencies in sport, will develop a County Sport Foundation or similar to provide funding for talented athletes and will develop a ‘Sports Business’ accreditation scheme to encourage businesses to support talented athletes, develop an active workplace, support community volunteering and sponsor local teams, community events or activities.

Our Legacy Vision is underpinned by the Olympic Values:

Excellence : Friendship : Respect
