Apply for the London 2012 Inspire mark
The Inspire programme will help to deliver a core strand of London 2012's commitment to deliver a Games for Everyone. The London 2012 Inspire mark is awarded to outstanding surprising, exciting, and brand new cultural projects inspired by London 2012 and recognised as helping to deliver the Games' lasting legacy. To be recognised as a Cultural Olympiad project you must carry the Inspire mark.
Twenty projects in the South East have been awarded the Inspire mark. The key projects with a Bucks link include:
Creative Campus - The University for the Creative Arts is working with a consortium of 13 universities including Bucks New University to deliver a series of cultural events, known as the Creative Campus Initiative, in the run up to the Games. There are 84 projects in total ranging from an architectural iron gym in Chatham Dockyard to the UK's first student street arts festival to a resident disabled artist scheme.
Our Sporting Life - Coming out of Henley's River and Rowing Museum brings together sport and culture in a unique celebration of Britain's sporting heritage. The programme starts by posing the nation a question - "What does sport mean to you?". You are invited to answer this and find out more on www.oursportinglife.co.uk. There are aspirations to host a rowing heritage event at Dorney Lake in 2012.
Driving Inspiration is an on-going project in Buckinghamshire. This year's project placed disabled artists and journalists with past and present Paralympians into 5 schools to create a living archive for Stoke Mandeville. The young people devised new work through visual arts, dance, music, writing, theatre and film that reflected the stories, lives, determination, drive, and inspiration of the Paralympians.
COPOR (Celebratory and Outdoor Performance Online Resource) will be a source of information, archive and production support for the Outdoor Performance sector. It will support the work of creative professionals by providing a sophisticated archive, network, forum and database. It will support the work of community, voluntary and not for profit organisations through information, advice and guidance (a 'helpdesk').
Steelpan Stepping Stone project funded by the Arts Council England and led by SV2G (St Vincent second Generation) will build the capacity of Wycombe Steel Orchestra and the steelpan development within Buckinghamshire. Wycombe Steel Orchestra will be performing at the Wycombe Community Festival that will be part of the Cultural Olympiad London 2010 Games this year July.

To apply for the Inspire mark you need to suggest a project which is genuinely inspired by London 2012. It has to meet the three core values of the Cultural Olympiad and at least three of the seven themes (listed above). What's more, the project has to demonstrate a step change for your organisation, an achievement above and beyond your normal practice. Carrying the mark makes you a Cultural Olympian and demonstrates excellence. Projects that are recognised by the programme have access to the Inspire mark, the non-commercial 2012 logo, and access to a range of exclusive communications support and marketing materials to help them raise publicity for their events. Projects also have the chance to take part in networking events to build partnerships with other Inspire projects and share best practice There are three ways to be part of the Inspire programme:
- Culture projects should contact Caterina Loriggio caterina.loriggio@artscouncil.org.uk
- Other legacy projects (sport, volunteering, education, sustainability, and business skills and opportunities) should get in touch with the Inspire programmer (Sue Gurney - email: suegurney@seeda.co.uk) for advice about their application and eligibility.
- UK-wide or multi-region projects should contact inspire.mark@culture.gsi.gov.uk
- The application process involves:
- Working with your Inspire, Creative or UK-wide Inspire Programmer to ensure the project meets Inspire criteria and objectives
- Filling in a short application form describing how the project is inspired by the Games
- Submitting the form to the Creative or Inspire Programmer for review and advice
- Once the application has been finalised, the Creative or Inspire Programmer sends the application and a recommendation to the Inspire committee in the London 2012 offices for approval
- Following approval by committee, projects are sent a license agreement to sign, and given a brand induction on using the Inspire mark [http://www.london2012.com/get-involved/inspire-programme/index.php]
