4,000 people take part in the first ever Milton Keynes Sky Ride!

4,000 people joined TV Personality Jeff Brazier, Team Sky’s Christian Knees and Matthew Hayman, and World and Paralympic champion cyclist Jody Cundy for Sky Ride Milton Keynes
Many more came out to watch and experience the day as cyclists of all ages and abilities took to traffic-free streets for the chance to enjoy the town on two wheels. The free event, hosted by British Cycling and Sky, in partnership with Milton Keynes Council, allowed riders to take in a 5km route at their own pace whilst enjoying some of the town’s most well-known landmarks, including The Hub and Midsummer Place. Participants were treated to a whole host of activities and entertainment throughout the day along the route, as well as the green open spaces of City Gardens.
Sky Ride Ambassador Jeff Brazier commented: “Thank you to everyone who came out and took part in Sky Ride Milton Keynes today. It was a brilliant family day out and it was great to see so many bikes taking over the city streets. I hope it’s re-ignited your love of going out for a bike ride and that this is only the start of your cycling journey.”
Councillor Alex Constantinides head of transport for Milton Keynes Council, said: “It’s fantastic that Sky Ride Milton Keynes has been such a success today, with thousands of local people out on their bikes enjoying the town on two wheels.”
Sky Ride Milton Keynes is just one of the many ways local residents can get back on their bikes through this year’s Sky Ride campaign. Sky Ride Local rides are running every Sunday through the summer in and around Milton Keynes, which take in everything from the countryside to local sights. There's also the Breeze network from British Cycling – a programme of bike rides and support just for women, plus brilliant Bike Maintenance Workshops which will be available in Milton Keynes later in the year.
