On the 2 May, Bletchley Leisure Centre launched their brand new water based fitness session - Water Polofit. The session, a 45 minute fitness workout in the pool, uses the principles of water polo to get you running, kicking, swimming and spinning your way up and down the pool!
From swimming drills, to ball skills and fitness drills, the session was high energy from start to finish and a great way to get in shape whilst enjoying all the benefits of exercising in water. The best bit – no expertise either in swimming or water polo is required – just a desire to work hard and get in shape!
When you’re in the pool, the resistance of the water means that you require more muscle power and burn more calories than when doing the same activity on land, plus you have the bonus of zero impact, making it easier for those with sports injuries to still train hard.
The instructor – Tim Whitwham has coached national water polo players so has a great understanding of the skills of water polo and the fitness needed and combines both for this fun workout, and with regular pulse checks – there was no getting away from working hard!
This great new offer at Bletchley Leisure Centre isn’t about getting into the Olympic water polo team, it’s a fun and different way of getting the most out of your time in the pool. If just swimming lengths isn’t enough for you, but you do enjoy being in the pool, give Polofit a try!
The session takes place at Bletchley Leisure Centre in Milton Keynes at 6.30pm on Wednesdays.
