A team running for England Athletics competed On Sunday 18 September at the Odense Marathon HC Anderson in Denmark. One of these three Elite ladies was Samantha Amend who faced a mixture of Kenyans, Russians and Danish athletes, with the race incorporating the Danish National Championships.
Sam is a familiar face in Marlow where she lives and leads various jogging groups so others can benefit from the sport she loves. But her generous, supportive nature wasn't evident in Odense where she competed hard. Samantha reflects:"This was an amazing opportunity for me to represent my country in an international race with England Athletics. The course offered an opportunity to gain a personal best for many athletes with it being flat. What made the race tough though was the torrential down pour throughout. Unfortunately for me, after trying to recover from a mid week stomach bug, getting a personal best didn't happen. Finishing 2.46 was outside my personal best of 2.42 but it still put me in the medals position to finish 3rd lady home . I can only thank England Athletics for providing this opportunity; it gave me a great chance to speak to other similar athletes and the chance to potentially produce a faster time". Sam is one of the hundreds of inspirational people leading activities with Reactivate Bucks, the campaign that connects people to sport and physical activity on their doorstep.
