Reason 1: Do it for better physical health
Want to cut in half your chances of getting colon cancer, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and coronary heart disease? That’s what regular physical activity will do for you. Regular activity will also reduce your risk of high blood pressure and high cholesterol, stroke, osteoporosis, anxiety, depression. Physical activity will also give you more energy, improve your posture and balance and help you maintain a healthy weight.
Reason 2: Do it for better mental health
We all know that physical activity is good for our bodies. Most of us also know it's good for our mental health even if the benefits are not as obvious as fitting into our favourite pair of jeans again. Being more relaxed, sleeping better, having a bit more self-confidence, and a good self-image go a long way towards coping with life's day-to-day events and stresses.
Reason 3: Do it for fun
Most people who dance, swim, go hiking, play tennis, or take the bike out for a ride do it because they like it! But having fun also benefits your health. Taking part in an activity that you enjoy will help you relax and reduce stress. It will also help you feel good about yourself. Physical activity doesn’t have to be hard to be good for your body. You don’t have to sweat it out at a gym if you get more enjoyment out of going for a walk or bike ride.
Reason 4: Do it to spend time with your family and meet new people
It’s fun to be active together as a family and with friends. Your time is one of the most precious gifts you can give your family. Spend more time outdoors with your partner and/or children. Walk the dog, play at the park or teach your children a game from your childhood. Group activities at a community or recreation centre can provide you with social support and a sense of belonging. While getting the exercise your body needs, you can also meet new people and make friends.
Being active is one of the most important things you can do for your health.
