Following a competitive recruitment process the Milton Keynes Sports Board consists of influential local people with close interests in sport and is chaired by Dr Philip Smith who has appointed the following board members, Prof. Keith Straughan, John Cove, Adrian Christy, Clive Faine, Ian Stewart and Gail Emms as founding members.
The group will coordinate the delivery of the MK sports strategy and promote MK as an attractive place to invest in sport and further builds on the initial work to establish Milton Keynes as an International Sporting City. It will raise the profile of sport locally, nationally and internationally, stimulate local sports co-ordination and participation and tackle issues of significance to Milton Keynes.
The group is formally recognised by Milton Keynes Council and the Bucks & Milton Keynes Sports Partnership.
Chairman Dr Philip Smith was excited by the prospect of leading sport in the city. "Milton Keynes is a very amenable place to do business and we can achieve outstanding success in sport through a thoughtful, well planned, and co-ordinated programme. We are looking forward to the challenge".
The group’s first meeting takes place in September at which point initial priorities will be agreed.
