Sport England has announced that the second round of the Iconic Facilities Fund will open for applications on the 10th October 2011.
The aim of the Fund is to deliver a lasting legacy from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games. Sport England are investing £30m over the next three years in innovative, large-scale, multi-sport facilities' projects.
The Iconic Facilities fund is part of the £135m Places People Play initiative which will transform the places where people play sport.
The fund will support the building of new sports facilities as well as improvement to the now ageing sports facilities built in the late seventies and early eighties. However a key criteria of the fund will be to support facility projects that are sustainable in the long-term. This means Sport England will invest in projects that are able to bring in enough revenue to maintain high standards of facility provision and customer service and a varied programme of sports opportunities and sports development outreach work.
Bids can be submitted by organisation entitled to receive public funding such as sports clubs, voluntary or community organisations, local authorities and education establishments such as schools, colleges and universities.
Priority will be given to projects with a collaborative or consortia approach between public, private and commercial organisations.
There will be three funding rounds.
The closing date for applications is the 19th December 2011.
