Are they the most active group of over 60’s in Bucks? The Chalfont St Giles 60+ Fitness & Social Club was only formed in October 2007 by local residents who wanted somewhere to meet, socialise and get some exercise, but already has over 35 members who meet weekly and enjoy an extensive range of activities.
The group, which meets every Friday afternoon from 2-4pm at the youth club at Narcot Lane in Chalfont St Giles, enjoys an hour exercise class of aerobics or pilates led by an instructor from the local leisure centre, followed by a second hour involving a choice of activities including Thai Chi, especially beneficial for Arthritis sufferers, table tennis, darts, board games and even the Nintendo Wii! A guest speaker gives talks once every month and the Club is shortly hosting the official opening of the stile-free path from Chalfont St Giles to Chalfont St Peter and is starting the Simply Walk Scheme run by Buckinghamshire county Council.
Karoline Lamb (Chairperson) says “We are friendly Club for both men & women who want to remain physically and mentally active and we would welcome new members. We love playing on the Wii and it is such a great way to exercise! The club has been a great success and I think every village should have one, perhaps we could even have friendly competitions against other groups in the future! For more info turn up to one of the sessions or contact Karoline at karoline.lamb@btinternet.com
