School Games

Here in Buckinghamshire The School Games use the power and energy of London 2012, and offers young people in our schools the opportunity to be inspired to take part in sport for life. A programme of competitions, complementing existing provision, are running across the county between now and the end of the academic year. Schools can enter teams into any competitions they choose. The winning team from each Level 2 competition will represent their school at the Level 3 showcase County Festival at the birthplace of the Paralympic Games, Stoke Mandeville Stadium—only 8 days before the Olympic Games opening ceremony in London!

The 2013 Sainsbury's School Games will take place on Thursday 20th June, launching with a spectacular opening ceremony at the birthplace of the Paralympics, Stoke Mandeville. Check back to see how the teams got on. (For more details of the Level 3 School Games please contact info@buckssport.org or call 01296 585215.

So how does the School Games work?

The School Games is an exciting four level sporting competition for school children in England.
Level 1: Intra school competitions / sports days
Level 2: Schools nominate individuals and/or teams to enter local inter-school competitions
Level 3: Winning teams from Level 2 attend a County School Games multi-sport festival
Level 4: The Sainsbury’s School Games final: a national multi-sport event where the most talented young people in the UK are selected to compete at our most iconic venues including the Olympic Park.

“The School Games are a nationwide initiative to build on the excellent successes of the School Sports Partnership projects. This is a fantastic opportunity for our young people and will showcase the positive impact that competitive sport can have.”
