What is Sportivate?
With the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics fast approaching there has never been a better opportunity to encourage more people to take part in sport and physical activity. 'Sportivate' is a nationwide campaign that will capture the excitement of the London 2012 Games by providing opportunities for teenagers and young adults (aged 14-25) to receive coaching in a sport of their choice and guide them into regular participation within their community.
Sportivate in Bucks
Within buckinghamshire our mission is to use the Sportivate campaign to ensure that more teenagers and young adults have the opportunity to find a sports activity that is attractive, affordable and accessible to them, with the ultimate aim of supporting them into life-long participation.
We have a target of retaining 3,645, 14-25 year olds in 6-8 weeks of activity designed to engage, motivate and retain them. To help us achieve this we have been awarded just under £400,000 of Lottey Funding from 2011-2015.
Key Elements of Delivery
The funding is available for the delivery of 6-8 week coaching sessions/leagues in any sport or multi-sport. The key elements of the delivery are:
- Aimed at 'semi-sporty young people aged 14-25 who are currently not doing too much sport in their own time
- Participants must be new to the activity (e.g., not existing club members) and commit to attending all the sessions in the 6-8 week block
- Activities must be new, or build on and extend current provision to participants
- Activities run by schools/colleges on their own sites must be delivered by community providers and open to the wider community
Year 2
Applications are now closed for Year 2 activities that are being delivered between April 2012 - March 2013.
If you would like to apply for this period please contact Andrea Healy on 01296 585073.
